What is Grüner Veltliner?

It’s very difficult to describe Grüner Veltliner because Grüner Veltliner is… has a lot of spectrums.

Well we Grüner Veltliner is a white grape and it’s an indigenous grape of Austria. It’s the main grape planted in Austria. It’s a white wine grape and you can think about its kind of similar or well yeah kind of similar to Sauvignon Blanc to Geuwrztraminer and that kind of style.

I think for me the favorite is Grüner Veltliner with the old style of Grüner VeltlinerGrüner Veltliner with white pepper with a little bit of a… good balance between acidity and body and not the exotic style. Now it’s also possible to make exotic style with a little fruitiness like mango and so on but the old style it’s a typical style of Grüner Veltliner is easier with more pepper.

Grüner Veltliner always has a nice spiciness as normally quite nice herbal notes, also some citrus in it and Grüner Veltliner actually is a nice grape because you can make kind of classic wine style out of it so lighter versions lighter wines easy to drink, but also when you pick the great later then the wines can be very powerful, very complex, very full-bodied.

If you have a small harvest you have a very interesting mineral Grüner Veltliner. If you have big quantity the typical kind of Grüner Veltliner is loosened because it’s only wine.

And probably the the most significant thing about Grüner Veltliner is that it has a very nice acidity so the wines from Grüner Veltlinerr are normally very nice to drink so they are drinking wines and they match very good and kind of various types of food so they are very good food pairing partners.

It’s a wine, a good partner for all meals a good partner for all persons, not so special and I think the best the Grüner Veltliner the best Grüner Veltliner are between 12 25 and 13.5 alcohol.

Grüner Veltliner can be found all over Austria so probably there is no region having not the Grüner Veltliner. But the most famous region or actually the most suitable region for land Grüner Veltliner is at the Danube area because the climate there is a little cooler, you have nice change of temperature between day and night especially in the ripening season, so in September when the grapes get ripe, which is good for Grüner Veltliner. So then the Grüner Veltliner can show its elegance and the nice fruitiness and spiciness in the Grüner Veltliner.

Also have a good aging. Often we taste Grüner Veltliner and Riesling in the same age and often better of all, the Grüner Veltliner against Riesling.
